Asphalt Roofing Shingles
Fiberglass asphalt roofing shingles are manufactured from a fiberglass mesh mat that is immersed in asphalt and offer a high fire resistance rating. Asphalt roofing shingles are typically laid on a preinstalled roofing felt base. The roofing shingles are overlapped by 4 to 6 inches starting from the bottom of the roof and working upwards to the roof ridge. This overlapping staring grom the base of the roof ensures that moisture will roll off the roof and will not penetrate the interior of the structure. Asphalt roofing shingles should last for 20 to 30 years depending on the quality of shinlge installed on the roof. However to get the maximum life from an asphalt shinlge roof some routine maintenance required and keep your roof clean especially in areas prone to mold.
Residential Metal Roofing
Initially finding acceptance with commercial buildings, metal roofing is now commonly the material fo choice by homeowners who plan to live int the home themselves. Its ability to take on the appearance of other roofing styles allows homeowners to select a longlasting roofing material without giving up their design goals. metal roofing is also very popular in geographic regions with heavy snowfalls, because metal roofs are better at shedding snow than other roof types. Plan to spend more initially when installing a metal roofing system than you would for asphalt shingle or woodshake roofs, but usually less than tile. Depending on the manufacturer, metal roof tend to last 30 to 50 years, and can certainly last even longer. Metal roofing is extremely varied and every year manufacturers introduce new designs and styles. Standard metal roofing comes in long sheets with a corrugated pattern running the length of it. This design has the best weather shedding qualities and is often selectedfor this reason.Metal roofs serve to protect the home from external fire hazards.Metal roof is a better insulator than asphalt roofing, and homeowners with metal roof enjoy homes that stay warmer in winter and cooler during the summer.
Flat Roofing
Flat roofs are horizontal roofing with a very slight inclination (usually 10 degrees). Flat roofs can be made from a variety of different materials and substances, including Asphalt built up roof (BUR), modified bitumen, Hypalon, PVC, TPO and EPDM synthetic rubber. Flat roofs always have a base and a coating of some sort, all of which require inspection and maintenance on a regular basis. Flat roofs are a distinguishing feature of modern architecture. However, flat roofs are more suited to residential buildings rather than industrial or commercial, as a flat roof will become gradually unstable as its size increases, and also exceedingly expensive. The life expectancy of a flat roof is relative to the amount of maintenance it receives. However, this can be influenced by the kind of material your flat roof is made of. All flat roofs should receive an inspection at least once a year, and should tend to the following more important aspects; Keeping roof drains clean and debris free, so that clogging won't prevent water from being drained, causing an overload of weight. Preservation of roof coating, which prevents degradation by the sun and provides a water-tight membrane. This is especially important if you have a concrete flat roof. Prevention of water leakage. Approximately 90% of all flat roof leaks are caused by insufficient maintenance of flashings.
